I want to offer one of my favorite recipes for such snacks - Korean herring, which is very easy to cook at home. I am convinced that having prepared this dish once, you will include it in the obligatory holiday menu.

To make this appetizer really tasty, I recommend strictly adhering to all proportions and clearly following my step-by-step instructions. Pay attention to the choice of the necessary products, because even a slight deviation from the recipe will upset the taste balance.

How to choose ingredients

  • For this recipe, you will need to buy two carcasses of fresh-frozen herring, not salted.
  • For the marinade, I use finely ground salt and 9% vinegar.
  • Take a medium-sized onion or proportionally adjust its quantity according to size.

Step by step recipe

  1. Onion (3 pcs.) Peel, cut into half rings and remember it a little with your hands.
  2. Peel 2 herrings and separate the fillet from the bones and ridge.

  3. Cut the fillet into small pieces 1.5 cm wide.

  4. Transfer the herring with onions to a deep bowl.

  5. In the same bowl, add red and black pepper 1/2 teaspoon, 1 tbsp. a spoonful of salt, 1 tbsp. a spoonful of tomato paste, 50-60 ml of vinegar and 70-100 ml of vegetable oil.

  6. Mix everything well and transfer to a jar with a lid.

  7. Place the vessel with the herring in the refrigerator to marinate for 6 hours.

  • To make the marinade spicier, increase the proportion of red and black pepper.
  • Only table vinegar 9% is suitable for this recipe. It should not be replaced with other types of vinegar, so as not to disturb the taste.
  • To avoid unpleasant surprises while eating this snack, carefully clean the herring from small bones.
  • The skin of the herring should not be removed, as this will preserve the integrity of each piece.

Herring in a spicy tomato marinade is served in special oblong plates, which many people call herrings. To decorate this dish a little, you can put a couple of sprigs of dill or a few thin slices of lemon on top. This appetizer is consumed separately and exclusively cold.
