Today we will prepare an absolutely outstanding classic - the Bloody Mary cocktail. This drink is perfect for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea. It's something amazing.

This vodka-infused drink has endless variations. You can have chili peppers, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, herbs... and even bacon. All according to your taste!

Jamie Oliver shares with us a classic recipe with a few tweaks to make it taste amazing and turn it into a unique cocktail. Also especially for us is the Bloody Mary recipe, which is served in one of his restaurants.

1 Take a tall glass and fill it halfway with ice cubes.

2 Pour in the vodka and tomato juice. By the way, Jamie prefers to use tomato juice not bought in the store, but makes it with his own hands. To do this, he buys a can of canned plum tomatoes - this is such a variety of tomatoes, and rubs them through a sieve. So Oliver gets a real tomato juice with a wonderful natural taste.


3 Cut a small wedge from a fresh lemon and squeeze the juice directly into the glass.


4 Sprinkle with a small pinch of salt and pepper.

5 Add a little less than a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, then the same amount of Tabasco. Now you need to mix everything slightly so as not to spill.


If you are using a shaker, tilt it back and forth a few times to mix the ingredients without making the drink foamy.

If you are making Bloody Mary for several people, then you can not immediately add Tabasco to the glass, put a cup with this sauce on the table and let people add it to the cocktail themselves. Some like it hot, others not so much!

6 Now we will decorate our cocktail, for this we need celery. Wash the celery well under running water, cut off its lowest root and put the whole stalk in our glass of ready-made cocktail.


7 Add a couple more ice cubes, a pinch of black pepper and a few parsley leaves.

Fill a glass halfway with ice cubes, pour 50 ml of good vodka here, 100 ml tomato juice. Then add 5 drops of Worcestershire sauce, 15 ml of lemon juice. We did all this in the classic recipe. Put in a heaping teaspoon of BBQ sauce. Now mix all the ingredients and add a pinch sea ​​salt. However, our cocktail is ready, it remains only to decorate it and diversify it with various tastes. Original Bloody Mary Recipe

Cocktail Ingredients:

  • Vodka - 50 ml;
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice - 15 ml;
  • Tomato juice - 100 ml;
  • Worcestershire and Tobasco sauces - a couple of drops each;
  • Pepper and salt - a couple of pinches each.

Classic recipe at home, you can perform one of two options:

  1. Combine all the ingredients from the list in a shaker, mix well, pour into a glass and serve with a straw;
  2. Pour pepper and salt into the bottom of a tall glass (Highball type), add sauces, pour first lemon juice, then tomato. Place the blade of the knife at an angle to the inner wall of the glass and carefully slowly pour the “little white” so that it lies on the top layer and does not mix with the previous one. For decoration, you can choose a sprig of celery.

There is also a Russian version of this drink. The cooking instructions do not change, but the number of ingredients is reduced by eliminating sauces and lemon juice.

The ingredients in it are absolutely identical to the previous cooking scheme, so we will not duplicate them. Only one chicken egg is added.

The cooking process is slightly different and is as follows:

  1. At the bottom of the glass, carefully break the egg so that the yolk is not damaged;
  2. We mix lemon and tomato juices, add salt and pepper, add sauces and carefully pour the mixture onto the yolk so as not to violate its integrity;
  3. Similarly, with the previous recipe, slowly pour vodka along a knife blade or a teaspoon to get a layered “liquid dish”.

This variation has an excellent anti-hangover effect and will help you quickly recover in the morning after a stormy party.

Non-alcoholic variety ("Bloody Maiden")

There is also non-alcoholic recipe Bloody Mary cocktail. Especially it will appeal to lovers of tomatoes and other vegetables.

The first option uses the same ingredients and proportions as in the classic recipe. Only vodka is missing. The components are mixed in a shaker, and the finished mixture is poured into a glass. At your discretion, you can report a couple of ice cubes.

The second variation is more original, vegetable and tasty and contains several additional components:

  • Large tomatoes - 2 pcs;
  • Onion - half a small head;
  • Bulgarian red pepper - 1 pc;
  • Tomato juice - 250 ml;
  • Ground cayenne pepper and zira - a quarter teaspoon each;
  • Lime or lemon fresh - 70 ml;
  • Fresh cilantro leaves - a quarter cup;
  • Salt - half a teaspoon;
  • Olive oil - 2 large spoons;
  • Black peppercorns - 2-3 pcs.

For decoration:

  • 4 circles of lemon or lime;
  • Cayenne pepper - 1/4 small spoon;
  • A handful of coarse salt.

We prepare in stages:

  1. We cut the tomatoes in half, and the onion in thick half rings;
  2. Place these vegetables on the grill along with bell pepper, which is left as a whole. Spray them with olive oil;
  3. Tomatoes need to be baked for two minutes on each side, and onions and peppers - for 5 minutes;
  4. Ready vegetables (except onions) are peeled, seeds are removed from the pepper;
  5. Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix;
  6. Squeeze juice from three circles of citrus, dip the edges of the glass into it, and then into a container with coarse salt and cayenne pepper;
  7. Fill a glass with the mixture and garnish with a slice of lemon or lime. After that, you can enjoy the refreshing taste of an amazing drink.

Bloody Mary with tomato ice

This original drink is offered in European bars and has the name "Ice and Blood" (Ice and Blood).

You will need:

  • Frozen tomato juice - 6 cubes;
  • Porto (fortified wine) - 10 ml;
  • Vodka - 40 ml;
  • Slice of lemon;
  • Pepper and salt - to taste;
  • Tabasco and Worcester sauces - a couple of drops each.

Step by step cooking scheme:

  1. Put ice red cubes in a glass, add all the ingredients from the list, except for port. Stir;
  2. Pour in the remaining ingredient and garnish the drink with a lemon wedge.

The date of the earliest record of a cocktail in a printed source is December 2, 1939. But the method of making the Bloody Mary drink, described in the newspaper, involved only mixing vodka and tomato juice in a 1: 1 ratio. No other components were discussed.

Almost 25 years later Fernand Petio claimed ownership of Bloody Mary. According to him, back in 1921, he began to prepare a cocktail with the addition of pepper, salt and sauce.

In some bars, mainly in the post-Soviet space, the classic Bloody Mary is prepared in a simplified way, adding only spices and salt to a mixture of vodka and tomato juice. The name of this option, as a rule, indicates the prefix - "in Russian".

Alternative egg cocktail recipe

On the territory of the countries of the former Soviet Union was invented and Alternative option cocktail: contains an egg.
