I made two types of mastic: from marshmallows and chocolate. I will not devote this topic to the process of making mastic, I will only say one thing: a feeling from childhood when you sculpt plasticine figures and create your own magical world.

To prevent the mastic from sticking to the table, you need to roll it out using powdered sugar or starch (it was more convenient for me to work on starch sprinkles).

Before applying the mastic, you need to cover the cake with butter cream and put it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Butter cream ensures the safety of the mastic and its excellent "sticking" to the surface of the cake. Experienced craftswomen in mastic say that instead of butter cream, you can use apricot jam.

The side of the ship is made with chocolate mastic: you need to roll it out no thinner than 2 mm, otherwise, when transferring it to the cake, there is a chance that it will tear. Since this is my first cake, I decided not to make a solid board, so I pasted the mastic in separate strips.

Separately, I will say about the sails: in order for the sail to keep its shape, it must be dried for at least a day at room temperature on a curved shape.

When the cake is covered with mastic and the sides are made, I mold a cannon and a steering wheel from the remnants of chocolate mastic. I carefully remove the starch with a brush, and to give the cake a shine, I cover it with a mixture of vodka and honey, so to speak, paint the sides, the deck, and the helm.
